Debilitated and Diminished - What Others are Saying

Debilitated and Diminished: what others are saying:
Debilitated and Diminished is a wonderfully helpful book for any biblical counselor. I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable with the term “emotional abuse” because I think it can be thrown around too easily; some women simply live with an inconsiderate and selfish husband. But does that constitute emotional abuse? And how do you counsel biblically and compassionately? Dr. Dryburgh answers these questions with a clear, solidly biblical approach. She first defines and describes what is meant by emotional abuse, what typical types of behavior are displayed by an abuser, and what the abuser is typically trying to achieve. She then recommends ways to counsel Scripturally which includes the role of the church as well as how to help the wife think and act biblically. After reading this book, I feel much better equipped to help women who are caught in an emotionally abusive marriage. Highly recommended!

Debilitated and Diminished what others are saying:

The biblical principles that Dr. Anne Dryburgh shares in "Debilitated and Diminished" are tried and true. In her book is a clear and concise breakdown of biblical principles, along with great practical applications to help women suffering under emotional abuse. Chapter 4 is also a valuable resource, as it covers the role of the church and how to come alongside and be a friend to the abused wife. Even though "Debilitated and Diminished" is full of deep and profound truth, it's an easy read. As I said... clear and concise! Whether you're in ministry, or a friend of someone suffering under emotional abuse, this book would be a great tool for your tool belt! And, even though this book is geared towards helping the emotionally abused wife; many of the principles could apply to emotional abuse occuring in different dynamics. We have requested that anyone in a leadership role, within our church read this book. It is so important to be united in our approach to helping these women and their families! I highly recommend this book!

Biblical Counseling and Mental Illness

In counseling, we often find ourselves confronted with the question: Which issues are spiritual problems and which are not?Are people suffering because of physical or because of spiritual problems? What about “mental illness”? What is “weakness”? When should we talk of sin?
We need to know: What issues is the Bible and “Biblical Counseling” sufficient for? What are our opportunities and what are our limits?
Wrong answers and approaches to these questions have led to much pain in the practice of counseling. At our NBS-Conference 2018 we want to address these important issues.
Our speakers are: Dr. Heath Lambert, pastor, professor, author, and director of ACBC, as well as Dr. Charles Hodges and Dr. Dan Wickert, two medical doctors who pursue both their medical practices, as well as biblical counseling. Both have dealt extensively with this area of study and are known for their work through lectures and publications.
During the three-day conference, there will be six main sessions, as well as numerous breakout sessions to address this crucial topic. Other counseling topics will be addressed during the breakout sessions. On Friday night, there will be an “open evening”, which will address a special topic.
The main sessions, as well as several breakout sessions will be offered in English and translated into German. Some breakout sessions will only be offered in English or German.

BCC Summit 2017: Disability and a Theology of the Body

Whether associated with painful disability or pleasurable delight, we want our experiences as bodily creatures to be understood through the lens of Scripture. If we are not guided carefully by Scripture it’s very easy to gravitate toward a distorted theology of the body that either exalts or demeans the body’s importance. This can lead to potential distortions in ministry to those struggling with disability. Continue reading:
